Serves: 8 pitas
This delicious pita bread can be stuffed with just about anything.
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast
  • 2½ - 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 - 2 teaspoons olive oil
  1. Mix the water and the yeast together until the yeast is dissolved. Let it sit until it becomes bubbly
  2. In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt together.
  3. Add the yeast water mixture to the flour mixture and stir until it forms a dough
  4. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes or until it is elastic and smooth. Add more flour sparingly to keep it from sticking to your hands or the work surface.
  5. Let the dough rise until it's doubled in size, around 2 hours
  6. Preheat the oven to 450F
  7. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Roll the pieces into balls and then flatten gently.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for around 3 minutes. When the bread has fully expanded, it is done. Be sure to watch closely as they burn quickly!
