I can’t count how many times my friends have called me old-fashioned, despite the fact that I actually rather like technology and I am probably just as savvy as they are on some things. Regardless, it got me to thinking, and I came up with a handful of signs that you, too, are probably considered old-fashioned….
1. You have good manners
Manners are important, and you always do your best to be polite. This includes saying “Please,” “Thank you” and more. You probably don’t curse all that much, and you tend to think higher of people who have good manners as well.
2. You always show respect
You respect your elders and other people in general. You also likely expect the same amount of respect back. After all, it’s only right and it’s good manners.
3. You know newer doesn’t always mean better
Sometimes, the old-fashioned way is best, and you probably have a handful of things that you always do the old-fashioned way. Your friends probably look at you oddly, but the results speak for themselves!
4. You work hard
Sometimes, hard work is necessary, but you don’t really mind. There’s nothing that makes you feel better than a job well done, and sometimes that might mean getting your hands a little dirty. And that doesn’t bother you. You probably also know when to kick back and relax and that makes the hard work even better.
5. You prefer to do things with your own two hands
Sure, there might be a faster or easier way to do things, but you tend to take pride in doing things yourself. This might be anything from gardening to home cooking or even making your own clothes and furniture. Whatever your skill, you know making it yourself will always be superior to anything you could buy.
6. Family is important to you
You are much closer to your family than most people. This could mean your immediate family or extended relatives, but either way you love being around family. After all, they are the most likely to stick with you in the future, and they love you no matter what. Nothing beats that!
7. You don’t like relying on technology
You aren’t technophobic (I mean, you ARE on the Internet) but you also aren’t the first to jump on new technology. Sure, it can make life a little easier sometimes, but you understand that technology can fail and don’t like to be 100% reliant on it.
8. You value old-fashioned romance
Those old-fashioned values tend to show up whenever you think about romance. This might mean holding the door for ladies or getting flowers on a first date. This doesn’t mean you’re against gender equality, but a little bit of classic romance will always hold a bit of nostalgia for you.
9. You are more self-sufficient than others
You might be a farmer and a gardener who grows and raises all your own food or maybe you make your own clothing and accessories. Perhaps you prefer home cooking or simply have more survival and practical skills and can get by better. Regardless, n this modern world, you are far more self-sufficient than most, and you take pride in it.
10. You value face-to-face conversations
Technology is awesome, but you know that nothing beats face-to-face conversations. When people pull out their phones in the middle of talking, you become irritated. You tend to value the people you’re physically with over those on the phone or computer and don’t understand why conversation sometimes seems so difficult for people.
11. You enjoy simplicity
At the end of the day, you tend to enjoy and love the little, simple things in life. Sometimes you might even wish that life was a little slower and less complicated. Things were so much better back then, and you probably try and do your best to live simply.
The old-fashioned life is sometimes hard, but it can be incredibly rewarding. I think that a majority of people have a little bit of old-fashioned in them, whether we realize it or not! So, tell me, how many of these points do you agree with? Is there anything else that makes you old-fashioned??
