Fall is in full swing here. Leaves have already turned colors and fallen to the ground, mornings are cool and frosty, and Thanksgiving is days away! Call me crazy, but one of my favorite things about the holiday season is the smells!
Rather than overspending on candles and scentsy’s like I have in years past, now my essential oil diffusers help keep my house smelling great and like fall! I know it sounds weird, but you know what I’m talking about— pumpkin, apple pie, cinnamon, etc! So, I thought I would share with you guys some of my favorite essential oil mixtures for fall. Not only will they fill your house with festive smells for the season, you get all of the awesome benefits associated with essential oils too!
Here are my favorite mixtures for fall, and how they can benefit you:
Pumpkin Spice
- 6 drops cinnamon
- 2 drops ginger
- 1 drop clove
- 1 drop nutmeg
Not only does this mixture smell like pumpkin pie, you reap some benefits as well! Cinnamon oil helps to boost your immune system and your confidence, ginger can relieve nausea, and glove and nutmeg really just round out the smell— you probably won’t notice any effects with such small amounts.
Orange Spiced Cider
- 5 drops orange
- 2 drops cinnamon
- 2 drops nutmeg
- 1 drop ginger
Orange essential oil is actually one of my favorites because of its sweet smell and multitude of uses. Orange can help you fall asleep (as does nutmeg), eliminate toxins, boost your immune system, and acts as a mood booster to help alleviate anxiety and anger. Cinnamon compliments the orange nicely, making this a good mixture if you feel yourself coming down with something!
Fall Woods
- 5 drops cypress
- 2 drops sandalwood
- 2 drops white fir
- 1 drop patchouli
I’m a sucker for nature and all things outdoors, and while I may not enjoy the cold I still think fall is absolutely beautiful. This mixture makes me feel like I’m walking through a forest in fall surrounded by crunchy leaves falling to the ground! The cypress works to improve circulation and heighten confidence, while the sandalwood and white fir can both help with coughs and respiratory issues as well as improve mental clarity and calm you down.
Bonus Spring Mix
If you’re like me and don’t appreciate cold weather, you can always fill your house with a nice spring mix to get yourself out of the winter blues!
- 5 drops lavender
- 2 drops lemon
- 2 drops grapefruit
- 1 drop orange
Lavender is my go-to oil, because it alleviates headaches, helps you fall asleep, and reduces anxiety— seriously, what more could I ask for? Not to mention lemon and grapefruit are good for a quick mood boost and help support a healthy immune system.
If you love filling your house with great smells, but hate spending money to do it, I really recommend making the investment in an essential oil diffuser. I typically max out with 10 drops each time I run my diffuser, and you would not believe how cost-effective it is! I haven’t bought a candle or air freshener since! You can find a really awesome breakdown of the cost here, where the conclusion drawn was that each drop of oil comes to about $.0044.
My essential oil diffuser is the perfect item to keep my house smelling like fall, and to keep me feeling healthy and happy throughout all of the season changes! Do you guys have your own fall mixtures you love? Share with me in the comments!
