I still can’t believe it’s December, but regardless, winter is creeping in! ‘Tis the season for giving and joy, but lets not forget wonderful Christmas smells!
Rather than overspending on candles and scentsy’s like I have in years past, now my essential oil diffusers is responsible for keeping my house smelling great! So, as a follow up to the fall guide for essential oil blends, I thought I would share with you guys my favorite essential oil mixtures for winter and Christmas. Not only will they fill your house with festive smells for the season, you get all of the awesome benefits associated with the essential oils too!
Here are my favorite mixtures for the winter season (there are a few more than for fall) and how they can benefit you:
Candy Cane
- 4 drops peppermint
- 3 drops wintergreen
- 2 drops sweet orange
- 1 drop cinnamon
This blend will fill your house with the smells of holiday candy white benefiting your health as well! Peppermint is well known for helping with headaches, nausea, and boosting immunity when diffused, and wintergreen has similar benefits, though it’s typically used topically.
Christmas Tree
- 4 drops pine
- 3 drops cedar wood
- 2 drops spruce
- 1 drop orange or lemon
I’ve always being a sucker for nature, and usually I love spending my free time outdoors. I hate the cold, though, so unfortunately during the winter I don’t usually feel quite as adventurous. This blend is perfect for me because it smells like a beautiful forest! The pine oil is used to provide a quick mood boost, and can reduce stress and give you energy. The cedar wood and spruce compliment the mood benefits of pine nicely, and all three can work wonders on a bad cough and chest congestion!
Gingerbread
- 5 drops ginger
- 2 drops cinnamon
- 2 drops clove
- 1 drop nutmeg
This is one of the more festive smells on this list, and it’ll keep your house smelling like fresh baked gingerbread! Ginger is an extremely popular essential oil due to all of the benefits associated with using it, including anxiety relief, aiding digestion, improving blood circulation, and curbing nausea. The cinnamon and clove work together to help fight depression, and all of the oils help with colds and sore throats.
Fireplace
- 5 drops cedar wood
- 2 drops pine
- 2 drops cinnamon
- 2 drops sweet orange
As previously outlined in the Christmas tree blend, cedar wood is great for treating upper respiratory congestion and coughs! Plus, the pine helps your mood by reducing stress and boosting energy. The cinnamon and orange help bring together the smell, making this the perfect blend for cozy nights in front of the fireplace!
Winter Wonderland
- 4 drops orange
- 3 drops pine
- 2 drops peppermint
- 1 drop lavender
This essential oil blend is perfect for when you’re in a funk as the benefits are mostly for your mood and emotional health! Orange oil is most often used in a diffuser because of it’s sweet and pleasant smell. It’s used as an anti-depressant, immunity booster, and sleep aid, which is perfectly paired with the pine! The peppermint and lavender can also boost your mood; both help reduce anxiety and stress.
Eggnog
- 5 drops nutmeg
- 3 drops vanilla
- 2 drop cinnamon
Nutmeg essential oil is a little bit weird to me because it can be used as a sedative or stimulant. The oil boosts brain activity, which can help your memory and concentration, but as it stimulates the brain it also works to reduce stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. The vanilla oil not only smells amazing, it ensures that the nutmeg oil acts as an sedative in this blend— vanilla helps you fall asleep and relax you with it’s sweet smell.
Winter Immune Booster
- 3 drops lemon
- 2 drops oregano
- 2 drops peppermint
- 2 drops grapefruit
- 1 drop orange
Obviously, this blend is here to boost your immunity! Sickness runs rampage as the seasons change, and with the cold winter months finally here it’s time to, well, avoid getting sick. Lemon is amazing for detoxifying, oregano helps prevent viral infections, lavender aids sleep which helps your body regroup, grapefruit is full of antioxidants and and vitamin C, and orange smells delicious 😉
An essential oil diffuser is the best way to fill your house with amazing smells without spending a ton of money! My mixtures are typically about 10 drops, and you wouldn’t believe how cost-effective it is! I haven’t bought a candle or air freshener in years.
As always, feel free to experiment with your essential oils to find a smell that is just right for you this winter season, or to find a blend with the perfect benefits for you and your family! Do you have any winter blends that keep your house smelling great? Share with me in the comments below!
