When it comes to water, I am spoiled. I grew up out in the country, and my parents get their drinking water from one of the purest wells I’ve ever tasted. I never understood what people meant when they said they didn’t like drinking water because of how it tasted. I mean, it’s water–it’s not supposed to taste like anything!
And then I went to college and had to drink city water for four years, and I really realized how awful water can be. No matter how many filters I used or what brand of bottled water I overpaid for, it just didn’t taste right. I tried adding lemon, which helped, but I’m not a huge fan of lemon so it really only made it passable. Slowly, I stopped drinking water and replaced it with teas and, I’m embarrassed to admit, soda. I felt tired all the time and couldn’t figure out why. Turns out, I was pretty much constantly on the edge of being dehydrated, and it was awful.
Then I discovered infused water.
Whether you’re drinking awesome well water or horrible city water, infusing your water with fruits is pretty much the best thing ever. Of course, I adore fruits of all kinds, so I might be a little biased, but it’s just so insanely easy and refreshing. And did I mention super yummy?
I admit I have not really been super adventurous with my infused water, and mostly only use oranges and mangoes when they’re on sale, but yesterday I came across some awesome blog posts on Hello Natural which list out 10 ridiculously delicious flavors for infused water so I just had to share. Using herbs, fruit and even—who would have thought it—flowers, I think Lindsey has pretty much discovered the key to staying hydrated! Click here and here to check out her awesome recipes, which include things like blueberry lemon mint and green apple raspberry rosemary water. Delicious!
The links above also include some instructions, although personally I prefer to let my water infuse overnight and then simply strain the liquid. It keeps longer, and you get fewer particles and less worry. But I am sure leaving the fruit in will make the later glasses taste even better.
The best thing about infusing your own water is that you control what goes into it. Personally, I can’t wait to try pretty much all of these. Hydration, here I come!
