With Christmas just around the corner, holiday festivities are already in full swing and so is my seasonal cheer! While there are a lot of things I love about the Christmas season, seasonal treats like hot cocoa and eggnog are pretty high on the list.
Growing up, we always just bought our eggnog from the store. It was coincidental that I even stumbled upon homemade eggnog, but the first time I tried it I knew I would never buy it from the store again! So, today I’d like to share with you a homemade eggnog recipe that tastes perfect to me!
- 2 cups milk
- 1½ cups raw cream
- 8 - 10 egg yolks*
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ cup - ½ cup maple syrup (to taste)
- Put everything in a blender and mix it all up! Whisking works fine too.
- Once it's smooth, refrigerate overnight and serve cold!**
**It should keep in the fridge for about 3 days.
Note: Raw egg yolks should only be consumed if they are farm fresh / pasteurized. Check out this article for some more details.
I could easily down all 5 cups of this in a day, but I typically try not to 😉 Even so, it’s still a great treat for the holiday season— plus, now that you have a recipe, who says eggnog can only be a thing around Christmas time?
You’re welcome to experiment with various amounts of cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla (I did before I landed on this recipe) until you find the perfect taste for you. Either way, I promise you’ll enjoy it!
